Adopt a Pueblo

E-mail Print

In spring 2008 the Gold Country chapter of LMV began a program called Adopt A Pueblo, which seeks to unite community organizations with specific villages in Mexico. Organizations like Rotary Clubs and Lions Clubs can decide to help fund part of the cost of sending personnel abroad to work in medical and dental clinics, allowing LMV to expand the number of missions undertaken and people helped. These organizations receive a certificate of appreciation from the village and a year-long membership to LMV, during which individuals from those groups can choose to participate more fully by attending chapter meetings and working at clinics. In their own words

"By nature, I'm not the type to volunteer. But four days in Mexico with LMV had a discernible effect on me. It felt better and more rewarding than a week on the beach in Hawaii. I will definitely return," Michael Martinez, volunteer
