- plan developed July 2011 by corporate and chapter trip coordinators
- surveyed trends of patients served, travelers, plane-trips
- interesting statistic: every LMV traveler serves on average 10-to-15 patients per day... i.e. a plane with 4 travelers serves ~40-to-60 patients per clinic day (varies widely by discipline)
- considered pilot capacity -- ~18 active pilots going into the fiscal year
- examined coverage by village -- strong coverage of our 4 Baja villages; spotty coverage of our 6 Sonoran villages
- established priorities
- Doc-in-a-Box: Bahía Tortugas, plus
- Education: Salvo-mis-Dientes program; Cinema Grátis
- Disciplines: Dental Hygiene, Dental, Optometry/Glasses, Chiropracty/Physical Therapy, Primary Care, Pediatric & Womens Health, Psychotherapy?, Cataract Surgery?
- Sonoran Villages: Villa Hidalgo, Huachinera, San Pedro de la Cueva, Nácori Chico, Granados (& Huásabas), Guaymas
- Baja Villages: San Ignacio, Bahía Tortugas, Bahía Asunción, Punta Abreojos
- defined target: 27 plane-trips for full fiscal year (23% growth)
Progress versus Plan
Access Spreadsheet
- just missed Jul-Dec2011 targets... 13 plane-trips actual vs. 14 target -- a couple trips cancelled in Nov/Dec for lack of healthcare pro
- of 6 trips (total 47 travelers) during Jul-Dec2011... 5 were multi-plane/multi-chapter
- coverage by village (see below: # of patients served) is starting to improve -- with a few exceptions (Hidalgo and Granados/Huásabas on the low side, Abreojos on the high side)

- projecting 15+ Jan-Jun2012 plane-trips... resulting in fiscal total of 28 vs. 27 target
- Note: the projected 15 plane-trips includes 5 plane-trips Jan2012 to Ensenada which were not planned in the original target
Issues and Challenges
- we need to closely monitor to assure closer to 20 plane-trips to Mexico for Jan-Jul2012
- suggested motto (per Horvath/Lober)... "It's all about making Trips"... i.e. LMV will be sustainable if and only if:
- we grow the number of patients served by making more and/or larger trips (to Mexico, to Oasis, to Latin America)
- we grow the number of members making trips (by small plane, by commercial flight, by car, whatever)
- suggestions for chapters to encourage members to make trips
- (obviously) get commitments from pilots and healthcare pros early -- and recruit more
- encourage Angel Fund requests for partial Trip Expenses and have an aggressive yet consistent policy to review/award
- consider a financial motivation for members to be active in their chapter... e.g. "LMV Bucks", $10/mtg for members, $25/mtg for board members
- don't confuse automation with reduced need for "humans making it happen"
- don't sit back and assume on-line Trip Signups will happen without "proactive pushing"
- chapter leaders need to get early commitments on Trips and Trip Leaders
- Trip Leaders (with assistance from corporate and chapter trip coordinators) need to pound-the-bushes to get their Trip Team staffed

- need to more tightly assure that e-records are complete before trips take off
- pilots (LMV-approved) responsible for:
- self-certifying their Pilot Records
- certifying Trip Waivers for all their passengers
- assuring that all eAPIS data is in for all their passengers
- chapter trip coordinators responsible for:
- assuring all their chapter members are current on Dues
- double-checking pilots on Pilot Records and Trip Waivers
- chapter treasurers or chapter trip coordinators responsible for:
- all passengers flying with a pilot from their chapter have paid their Trip Expenses
